The Carlisle-Nicholas County Chamber of Commerce honored its Citizen of the Year last Sunday at the Neal Welcome Center with a special reception. This year's winners were Jan and Ed Taylor. The couple was chosen for their work in the community.

Taylor is curator of the Kentucky Doll and Toy Museum on Main Street in Carlisle. The museum and its collection have been featured on KET. She is also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and former special education teacher in Paris where she still substitutes.

Ed Taylor was one of the founders of the Chamber of Commerce in Carlisle and still serves as a member of the Long Term Planning Committee. He has worked diligently to see these endeavours completed.

Chamber Recognizes Citizen's Contributions -2014

This past Sunday afternoon, the Carlisle-Nicholas County Chamber of Commerce held an open house to recognize the achievements of Gladys Shrout for her untiring service to the community, awarding her the Citizen of the Year Award. In addition to feeling deeply honored by the recognition, Gladys expressed her appreciation to the Chamber for their work. "These awards are something the Chamber used to do years ago, and it is nice to see effort being given to bringing back the tradition and helping to restore some of the community pride that is so important." Gladys also took time to recognize the assistance of her dear friend, Julie Garvin, who has worked alongside her for years to restore the Old Jailers House and with so many other projects to advance the community.

This past Sunday afternoon, Nov. 17, approximately 75 Nicholas Countians gathered at the Neal Welcome Center to show their love and support as the Carlisle-Nicholas County Chamber of Commerce held its annual "Citizen of the Year" presentation, with the award going to Gerald "Buck" Watkins.

Brenda Willoughby of Johnson-Mathers Nursing Home spoke first, praising Mr. Watkins' dedication to the residents and staff of the nursing home.

"He is their sunshine and joy," she said. "Not only does he deliver newspapers to each resident every week, through his work with the Gideons, Mr. Watkins has provided Bibles to most of the residents - and even several of the staff.

Villaflor Awarded Citizen of the Year Award - 2012

Dr. Oasis Villaflor was awarded the Citizen of the Year Award by the Carlisle-Nicholas Chamber of Commerce.
